Very well put, I love our Marines, and it's true when they say Once a Marine always a Marine, you have every right to be proud, God Bless you, and Semper Fi., I have two Grandsons who are Marines, but they are out now and they still carry that pride with them, their stance the way they conduct themselves are amazing, They are still Marines in heart and spirit. Love them.

dpan

Very well said, I would like to add arrogance is often confused with CONFIDENCE.

The writer states that Marines share a brotherhood. That comradery isn't just within those men and women that serve; it extends to their mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters. We become ONE FAMILY when one of our own becomes a Marine.

Gyrene

I couldn't said it any better . Semper Fi ...

My youngest son is a "newbie" paratrooper with the 173rd, but I've always had a special place in my heart for Marines!

This made me cry! Thanks for posting this, Moe! I have the same pride that you speak of and my son is only in his 7th week of PI! I love the Marines, and the family feeling of being involved with this incredible, hard-working, strong bunch of warriors!

 Lisa

Wow......beautiful. And I love what one person said about how it affects us all when some one you love signs. The day I saw my son become a Marine 5 years ago, my life changed. And I know ALOT of people who feel the same. This journey has been amazing! I don't know why....it just has !

My little boy still wants to be a Marine when he grows up. I've never forced that thought on him. To be honest... I'd rather see him become a Marine than graduate with honors from some ivy-league school.

Pat

I love the Marines and as Moe stated so well, Marines aren't arrogant, they're proud! And they have every right to be! I'm PROUD to say that my grandson is a Marine. OOHRAH!

Peggy Ball

Only some one who does not know a Marine would call them arrogant.
The Marine corp has taught my Son how to fight for what he has (FREEDOM)
And to do it with the best Family a man can have. I am proud to be a mother of a Marine

Ike

Only Marines understand and revelle in our history and our accomplishments. We were a "Band of Brothers' long before the TV series and when Shakespeare wrote those words so long ago, little did he know that it was the USMC whom he had in mind, fore we are arrogant, yes, but an arrogance borne of accomplishment, selflessness, and altruism. We respect our fellow servicemen and women, and their pride in what they have accomplished, however, we reserve the right to be critical of them when necessary and as such will accept their criticism of us, just don't tread on us. Semper Fi Marines and Semper Fi all other Macs.

GCan

Often times those who are quick to reproach others for what they perceive as arrogance are the very same who secretly wish they could be like the object of their disdain. You have to feel sorry for the sort that will never be able to be superior enough to inspire anyone's envy.

As a 22 year Vet of the Army and former Infantry, I support my Marine Brothers. I would argue that the Army Infantry can be just as "arrogant" as any Marine. (Not even gonna mention the Rangers)

I am the Infantry Follow me!

Michael pence

22 year army vet, you just don't get it. I served in both branches but my heart was always first to the Corps. I served many years in SOF units in the army. There is no Esprit De Corps as of being and earning the title Marine. Now go away, you don't belong here, it's a Marine thing.

Maj Pain

Gang-
Great comments and I appreciate you checking out One Marine's View. Now if I could only get the rest of the world to understand what their Marines are doing for them.

Semper Fidelis

Larry Grant

As a retired ANG and USAF vet, I have to say I have observed much more arrogance from the USAF/ANG and Army(officers).
Confidence, pride and Esprit De Corps is another matter.
I have had the honor and pleasure of working with active, reserve and former Marines.
Good job Marines!

Arrow

Confidence, pride and Esprit De Corps best describe our Marines.

I'm thankful for the veterans in my life from other branches of the service who express great love and respect for our Marines.

Men and women who know who they are recognize excellence in others.

Mike P

As I often tell folks, the Marine Corps causes permanent brain damage. And I am walking proof of it. Semper Fi.

Ang B

ar·ro·gant
adjective /ˈarəgənt/
Having or revealing an EXAGGERATED sense of one's own importance or abilities

So, someone who is arrogant, thinks more of themselves than they really are. Marines are nothing like that. Marines are confident and proud, with good reason. They put their lives on the line every single day so that we can have the freedom to express our own beliefs. Maybe he wishes he had what it takes to be a Marine.

Maj Pain

Awesome comments warriors. You guys "get it" and are thankful for what we do because you know what we sacrifice. Semper Fi & Thank you!

In 1972 I remember one of my Drill Instructors, Sgt. Morrow, at PI saying to the platoon: "People are going to think you think you are better than everyone else. Well guess what? It's true. You are now United States Marines. You are the best there is."

Semper Fidelis.

Sandi

I had to copy and paste this in a letter to send to my son currently at PI...six weeks to go. I was in the Navy for 11 years and going back into the Army (yes, I'm going to Basic Training at the age of 51) but my heart will always belong to the Marines and I can't wait to be a Marine Mom.

Carla Cooper

This is amazing! Thank you for sharing it and your feelings. I will be copying it for my DAUGHTER who is currently at PI...4 weeks to go! I was not in the military, but stand every time our flag goes by and I am one of those people who "pay a little more attention" and have all my life! Thank you for your service. Thank you for being a Marine.

My son wanted to be in the Military from the age of 2, decided he wanted to be a Marine at age 13, and now he's serving in Afghanistan. He went in a boy and is now a MAN. I never knew what it meant to be in the "Family" until now and my pride for him and his brothers grows every day. I have one biological son, and now my family has grown so much I can't count how many sons I have and will take care of any time needed until the day I die. You all have sacraficed so much for us, our great country and others in countries not able to protect themselves. I pray for all our service members, but Marines have my heart. Moe - please feel free to exude your pride or "arrogance" as some say. You are all my heros and will forever be top dogs!

When I find myself getting sanctimonious about privacy policies, I remember that I came into the world socially, privacy violated and violating - I was born of another's body, stark naked, through her very privates. With that visual in mind, I find my outrage and idealism about the sanctity of privacy getting pretty infantile. I get realistic about privacy and people: All the people, all the time, cannot be made to do the right thing. Most of the people, most of the time, however, will. With people, that's the deal.

In 1966 I was stationed at dong ha combat base in vietnam.upon arriving at the base we were met by a number of Marines. I was in the air force and really had not had not made contact with Corps. We were going to learn about the Corp in a very special way.NVA had moved a divison of regular troops into area. The marines began Operation Hastings After heavy fighting the Marines were able to drive the NVA back the DMZ. The casulities stood at 128 kias and over 400 wounded . I was assigned to removing over 80 marines kia and approxmently 225 wounded from choppers. If not for these brave Marines I would not have been around to raise 3 children. To this day I will not ever forget the 4th Marines I was stationed with. Its true they were brothers and I became A LITTLE BROTHER having served with them for one year of Hell. God Bless The marines.

Emilie

Only 18% of the armed forces are Marines. Only 6% of Marines are women. I am one of those women. So yeah I'm confident. You can call it arrogance, but I've earned it no matter what you call it.

Don't think so, nice try but no cigar, MARINES DON'T FOLLOW WE LEAD.
You can mention the rangers, we had some train with us at Camp Wilson, not a peep out of them. Not impressed just gang over glorified army dog slobs not even close to Marine Warriors. Your out of your league pal you don't make the cut to be on this discussion panel and will never understand our brotherhood.
SEMPER FI TO THE DEATH.

John Brown - E-3 forever

Well said Moe. It was a pleasure to serve with you in 3/3/3 in '63. God Bless and Semper Fi Brother.

All the respect for the Marines, BUT- puhhhhlease have a reality check about our nation's history. You can read any elementary history book and realize the Marines have only done a small fraction of what the Army has done for our country. General Washington led the Continental Army, not the Continental Marine Corps. From 1812, Frontier, Mexican-American, Civil War, Spanish American, WWI, WII, etc- it has been the Army that has done all the heavy lifting. The Army is the biggest and largest branch with even more ships than the Navy for a reason. Again, all respect but please have a frame of reference and do not be uninformed about your U.S. History. You guys do have better commercials and better press- I must admit.

Michael Gordon

Semper Fi! I had aspirations of becoming a Recon Marine Officer when I was in High School. I fell short of that goal ending up an 0311 with Fox 2/4, the "Magnificent Bastards" 91-93 If I had it to do all over again I wouldn't change a goddamned thing! Nobody will ever understand who hasn't earned the fuckin title!Im 41 and I can still pass a PFT If I could I would re-enlist, civilian life is for fuckin "CIVILIANS"

Luke McNamara

To LOUIE.
You do not get to call the Marines warriors my friend. And you don't need to get butt hurt over someone in the army commenting on here. He said he respects his Marine brothers and he is doing a fine job of saying it. You on the other hand are probably not a Marine but a close-minded Marine fanboy who got rejected because you didn't have the right attitude to be in the Marine Corps. Soldiers will always be warriors and Marines never will be. Marines are Devil Dogs, Jarheads, and Leathernecks son. Marines are not slobs and the Army is not made of slobs either but you sure as hell are one. Oh and the Marines are not better than every other branch just because they know how to fight. They are a fine branch of the military no doubt but they are not the best. Every branch is equal! So my friend LOUIE anybody can post on this Panel. That's what these servicemen are fighting for, freedom of speech you lazy little closetboy.
Semper Fi and Army Strong!
