NC isnt the only state jacking with servicemembers voting rights

Now it looks as NC isn’t the only jacked up state that is hosing your servicemembers from voting. NY has apparently dropped the ball in shipping servicemembers their absentee ballots as well (how many other states have done the same?)

The scary thought is how long has this been going on?? Well ask yourself how long have we been at war and you will get your answer.  Sure there are numerous sites that assist you in requesting your absentee ballot like the below

However,  by proof by the below article and my personal experience, the individual states are dorking this up like a fat kid in a candy store.  Why hasn’t this been addressed before and with a little initiative hasn’t it been corrected? News flash, it isn’t working the way it currently is America. We have made progress to finally get people to exercise their right to vote (wow, that alone is scary) but now our system can’t be configured to accommodate the input. WTF are we doing by letting this stay its course?

 

U.S. armed forces were stationed at more than 820 installations in at least 135 countries. Some of the largest contingents roughly are the 50,000 military personnel deployed in Iraq, the 71,000 in Afghanistan, the 52,440 in Germany, the 35,688 in Japan the 28,500 in Republic of Korea, and the 9,660 in Italy and the 9,015 in the United Kingdom respectively. These numbers change frequently due to the regular recall and deployment of units.

Altogether, 77,917 military personnel are located in Europe, 141 in the former Soviet Union, 47,236 in East Asia and the Pacific, 3,362 in North Africa, the Near East, and South Asia, 1,355 are in sub-Saharan Africa with 1,941 in the Western Hemisphere excepting the United States itself.

Now, tally those servicemembers votes up and tell me they don’t make a difference in any election???

I have fired off an email to my Senator, John Cornyn, regarding this. I know he is working on getting this right for our service men and women. It is interesting that these (and the majority not in compliance with the MOVE act) have Democratic Governors - maybe a coincidence? NOT.

Because of your post the other day on this issue, I sent a note to my DC Rep and did a fair amount of research. Yup, NY did not get 320,000 absentee ballots out on time - in fact they aren't out yet (AM on 10/11). I found the FVAP (Federal Voting Assistance Program) and the Overseas Vote Foundation that you also mentioned. There are 12 states who filed for the 45 day waiver, but some who did not file are also late.
I hope some DC .... idiot .... does not decide that it is ok for the absentee votes not to be counted. I do not think that would fly, swim or crawl.
Am praying that one of these online sites will be the answer for you all to get your votes in.

I can say categorically that in the last several election cycles there has been an issue in WI with military ballots. They filed for the extension this year although they have had a year in which they have discussed the issue. Primary elections need to be scheduled early enough so that the ballots can be prepared in a timely manner and gotten out and back on time.

We need a federal law to govern the latest possible dates for the primaries so that this can be done. It really is a "no escuses" subject. NO ONE serving this nation should be denied a vote.

It is my belief that some states which feel they are disadvantaged by the military vote, do not give it the priority it deserves. It must stop. It should be a federal crime to fail to provide every service person with a ballot and get it back on time to be counted.

Amen to that! I was sickened to read of military ballots not counted in the 2008 election. There is just NO EXCUSE. To not count the votes of our Warriors while we sleep peacefully in our beds at night under the blanket of freedom provided by their sacrifice is unconscionable!
