I like the quote " we will die on our feet before we live on our knees" Good shit!

IRONFIELD

WELL DONE.A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY FOR THOSE THAT FORGET.ALSO DON'T BE NEAR ME IF IF YOU DON'T STAND FOR MY PLEDGE TO MY FLAG,OR WHEN TAPS IS PLAYED OR ITS LIGHTS OUT FOR YOU....I STILL GOT A LITTLE BIT LEFT IN ME.
WE MUST SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.
I SAID IT BEFORE AND WILL SAY IT AGAIN....STAND BEHIND OUR TROOPS, OR FEEL FREE TO STAND IN FRONT OF THEM.
BIG BRO JIM I SAID THAT.
REMEMBER 1100 HRS IS OUR SALUTE TIME FOR OUR TROOPS,SO GRAB A CEE GAR AND A NICE FROSTY ROLLING ROCK AND SAY A PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS.
OUR TROOPS KNOW WE STAND BEHIND THEM.

MamaTod

Very moving story, with more detail than I've ever heard. Can you post a link to verify please? Thanks.

Domestic Diva shared this with the Church Ladies this morning. Thanks for sharing it with all of your readers.

I've had friends and family look at me like I was nuts when I've stood up while the Star Spangled Banner was being played on television. Most finally do get up but it's often a battle that makes me livid.

Oh to be a fly on the wall if/when you ever encounter one of those lazy butts. Worth the price of admission not doubt and a lesson learned by them for SURE! Go get 'em MAJ P!

I'm with you BigBroJim! 23:00 each night. 'bout 12 minutes away.

BIG BRO JIM I

LETA,
PEOPLE AT THE V.F.W. LOOK AT ME WHEN OUR NATION ANTHEM IS BEING PLAYED BEFORE A NASCAR RACE ,THEN I STAND UP,AND THEY LOOK AT ME LIKE I'M NUTS..HEY PEOPLE ISN'T THIS THE V.F.W. .. WAKE UP FELLOW SO CALLED VETERANS.

Cheryl

I'm 53 years old and never heard the entire story of why Mr. Key wrote our beloved anthem. I'm in tears thinking of those brave patriots, our forefathers, and what they would think of our country today. I shall make sure everyone in my vicinity stands for our anthem from hereon out.

Thanks for posting this.

BIG BRO JIM I

SORRY LETA.
I MEANT 2300 HRS, BUT NOTHING WRONG WITH 1100 HRS EITHER.
IN THE WORDS OF TERRI CLARK.....
I THINK THE WORLD NEEDS A DRINK.

Joe

"I will give you one recommendation; it would be unadvisable to not stand during the National Anthem in sight of me. I will take corrective action."

You just try to make do anything scumbag. I'm not your fucking slave punk

texasdillo

Well, Joe the slave punk has spoken. Bet he is on his knees alot trying to figure out the difference between a rifle and a gun.

BIG BRO JIM I

Yeh Tex, i think joe is pulling his pud.

Peggy

I would like our Congress for once, have to listen to these words "We will die on our feet before we live on our knees" over and over and over until they understand just what they mean. If they don't, than I will be more than happy to escort them to stand in front of our troops..
For that is where they will belong. Because they do not honor our flag or our troops. Or to me our FREEDOM... Also our troops do know who supports them....
Great posting Major P...

BIG BRO JIM I

HEY JOE,
BY THE WAY GO PISS UP A ROPE.

The problem with not comprehending our own broad history... not listening, not looking further than what is spoon-fed, not knowing actual people, tough times, service, sacrifice - even with each pecadillo - without suffering personal loss, without having survived (or having the grace to help someone endure theirs) is that it can be geniunely difficult to comprehend why respect counts so damned much. If the speaker doesn't see the correlation between "I'm not your fucking slave punk" and " we will die on our feet before we live on our knees" then, it does indeed seem a petulant declaration without respecting how they got there. The sacrifices (since then, and now) and the ones before so well described in the Frances Scott Key piece were not peevish tantrums but for the right of that flipping off. Well... I'm not saying anything not already known, just wanting a strong, full memory. Always appreciate your reminders Major; finally learned freedom isn’t free and I’m grateful for the brave. Play ball.

At the time of his death, Gen. Butler was the most highly decorated soldier in U.S. history, serving all over the globe. After retirement, he thwarted a plot to overthrow Pres. Roosevelt. I wonder what he would say about our current crop of leaders and conflicts? See

Raise a ceegar and a frosty one to the troops? WTF. Come on man that is NOT supporting the troops. Half of you on here make comments about supporting the troops but you don't do shit but drink and moan about the way the country is going.

Give me a break. Support the troops by trying to figure out how we best can help them to finish their job and get home, help Iraq, and help make it so they can better defend us and the world.

You drinking a Rolling Rock doesn't do crap and saying a prayer doesn't do anything for the troops. Thanks for nothing Ironfield.
