St Patrick’s Day began early with temps of 32 and wind chill creating temps into the high teens and 20s. But the night before at Walter Reed Hospital, snow covered the ground and Troop supporters out numbered the “Pinkos” 3 to 1 and of course they left early because it was too chilly for their tootsies.
When I arrived at the Viet Nam Memorial at 0930 there was easily 9,000 supporters there and maybe 500 “idiots” milling around. Then one of “them” handed me one of their prefabricated mass produced “traitor” signs as if I wanted to carry the shit stick, I broke it over my knee and threw it to his feet. He got the point.
Although there was no way anyone was getting close to the Wall we had it along with every other monument in the area covered with a squad (10-12) Patriot Guard, etc etc supporters. You would have thought there was special on prison tattoos from all the ink on the bikers in the crowed and there were at least 10 different sets of motor cycle gang colors in the crowed (glad they were on our side). The Park Rangers had stretchers lined up on the side along with the 40 police cars, 30 horse mounted riot policeman and multiple ambulances. The “traitors” were your average skinny white kid with dread locks………..(WTF??) I don’t get that but only to out do them were the other Barnum Bailey Circus freaks in the crowed. I’m sure they made their Daddy’s real proud today….not. Before the traitors began their sheep herd movement to the Pentagon, another couple busses pulled up bringing their totals to about 10,000. Not bad since they were funded by numerous groups and had a year to plan it. On the other hand the Gathering of Eagles had less than 6 months to prepare, no funding and totaled 30,000.
It was profound when the Eagles began shouting “Where’s your flag?” to the traitors as they held up a couple hundred American flags and the “traitors held up everything but American flags. They had Iraqi, Kuwait, some sorry excuse of a bed sheet but no American flag. Doest that say it all?
I don’t mind their free speech. They can say whatever they like. Bitch & moan Blab bla bla which is what they pretty much did, but when you threaten to disgrace the memorials of men who have died ensuring you have that right, you are toast. Point blank. I am positive if the wind would have taken one of the traitor’s hats and blown it across the street and they chased it, they would be in serious trouble.
They day ended as the sheep began migrating to the Pentagon and laid their path to move over Memorial Bridge in DC. They were channelized and were faced with an unexpected hazing from the 30,000 as no one took the lead and they slowly grazed on.
Thank you to all of you bloggers who got the word out, Gathering of Eagles, Patriot Guard Riders from all over the States, Veterans and the thousands of supporters of all ages that came out to make a difference, you saved the monuments and the dignity of the men they represent.

Spencer, you poor little thing! You are so correct that those big bad police should not have picked on you!! They should have gone to your house and arrested your parents for letting their stupid little kid out from under their rock! You should at least graduate from third grade before you think you can participate in a freedom of speech event. I do appreciate you letting us hear your viewpoint from the front however. Of course, it would be more valid if you had a point. Lets hear from you after you do your time in the military earning your right to have a point. Let us know when you get past that third grade...

Please, anyone that reads whatever it was that Spencer was trying to say, this is not our youth of today. My little Sarge is a fine example of that. I have a young one that sets forth what doing the right thing really means, and guess what? She is 13, can spell correctly, doesn't swear, she LOVES her country, she RESPECTS her country and the freedoms given to her, she RESPECTS authority, and she does many a thing, not to see what she can get out of it, but to do so because it IS the right thing to do.
She has involved many of her school mates to do the same, she has inspired many ADULTS to do the same. Spencer, when you can write a sentence that makes an ounce of sense, then you may come back and try to make a valid point. Keep up how you are and your future is looking as dimwitted as what you just made yourself out to be.
I don't get the media, I sat here glued to the TV yesterday just waiting to catch a glimpse, any glimpse of American's finally standing up and saying WE SUPPORT. Guess what? On all news outlets, I saw them do blurbs of the protestors, I heard them talk about an anti war rally, but I didn't see much in the way of the 'other side' I didn't hear them talk about the outnumbering of American Patriots that were there. I did however on I think it was FOX, interview ONE person there doing the right thing and he got all of 10 seconds. The next person they talked to, was in the Navy and opposed to the war, he got to talk on forever and ever. You would think, that finally the news would HAVE to show there are 2 sides. You would think with the anti protestors being so vastly outnumbered, they would HAVE to make mention, AT LEAST MENTION, that there were those there that support our troops, that support taking a stand in bettering the WORLD (not just America) I guess it is to positive of a thing huh?

Major
Thanks for your great posting. I wasn't home most of the day but searched the major news sites looking to see what happened. Very typical coverage. Only pictures of the morons and the same story shared by the media. Once the print photos come out about the story, I think there will be even more concrete proof of the bias. We're having to depend on the milbloggers like you Taco, and Gunnutt for the truth. Thanks for all you do.

Well done G! I'm not surprised that all of you and GOE didn't get the coverage we'd have liked, but thanks to you and other bloggers at least we got some good AAR. Should push for some interviews with Fox at the least. LOVE the picture at the top of your post!
BZ to all that were there standing tall!
Semper Gratus!

Mental picture of you breaking the sign.... priceless!

Great post, Maj! The sea of leather-clad veterans was truly a sight to behold. Those guys (and you, of course) were angry and let the little punks and 60's hangovers know that they were finally outnumbered!
It was a GREAT DAY!

I, too, looked for coverage but barely saw any for the eagles. I saw a group with flags and knew that was the good guys! Thanks to all who went and represented! And thanks, Maj P, for breaking that sign in front of the anti-American--wish you had a picture of that! ;)

Major:
Thank you for the detailed report. Like all the others, I searched the online, print and television media for reporting - there was very little, and mostly screwed towards Spencer and his crowd.
Please resist the urge to pull his response as I think it is a good representation of the "quality" of folks that participate in those things. I found it interesting that throughout the diatribe, Spencer never spoke of any ideology or convictions he/she may or may not have - just there for the fun! Wow.

I guess it's no coincidence that most of the protesters signs are yellow?
Posted by: ysip | March 18, 2007 at 04:57 PM
Just because we don't support the war does not mean we are Anti-American. I just don't support the fact that my great-grandchildren will have to pay for it. Add to it that our economy can't handle the strain of the debt, we as a nation have gathered.

G, I can just see you now breaking that sign...I am lovin' that mental picture! :) I wish so much that I could have been there-but I am very proud that so many turned out to protect our monuments and show support for our military men and women. Great job on the reporting!!! I can always count on you for the REAL story.

As usual, Major Pain, you are one fantastic Marine!! What a day!!!
This is primarily for "Spencer." I do not believe you were even present. I believe you made up everything you wrote. Why do I say this? Because I was there and saw all the police coming back from the Pentagon as we were walking across the bridge towards the Arlington Cemetery Metro Station. We actually waved at them, and thanked them. They smiled back.
Our little Spencer didn't realize that if he was on the bridge before the march, and was told to move, it's because no one was allowed there. And, if he was on the hill by the Lincoln Memorial, that was the area where the GOE had their permit, and I wouldn't doubt if the police made him move on!
It was a wonderful sight to behold when I saw the thousands of Veterans lining that parade route. I also found it interesting that the lunatic fringe, including the mythical Spencer, were only two lanes abrest and half way through, it was down to one lane. So, the turnout was really poor on their side.

I am so proud of all of you for protecting the Wall of Honor! They have done their time in Hell. May we NEVER allow that to occur in this country again. If y'all have a problem with the war.. go spit on a politician. But, by jiminy.. you BEST NOT turn your head towards one of our brave soldiers. EVER! I want MY country back! This PC b.s. is killing this country. Enough is enough. My AMERICAN flag CONTINUES to fly high from our house! If you want to march to end the war.. load up a boat or plane and go to Iraq and scream your head off!
Thank you for posting this wonderful blog!!

Thanks for update. I caught all of about two seconds on CNN of the protest...that's about all I could stomach...all they could talk about was the variety of protesters and of course nothing about the great men and women that seems to have greatly out numbered them. I would like to thank all of you for being there when I could not, hopefully one day I'll be able to get out there to stand up and speak up for myself.
