Well Done MAJ B !

The History Teacher

Thanks for doing tomorrow's lesson plan for me Major! They've heard all about you... can't wait to see the look on their faces when I say "And today's lesson comes courtesy of Major Pain himself!"

LOL.....I start each school year with that explanation, and we usually have a great discussion following it. It's amazing how perceptive 10 year olds can be.

Red Skelton had an excelent version (not that this one is not) much like this that has stood the test of time and can be found all over the net.
This URL has both the audio recording and the text.

I love our pledge. It should be required. I don't care what they say. If you have to raise your hand and say it to become a citizen, you should know it as an American.

Thank you for added words. I've heard them often, but I never had the opportunity to see them. You're a doll.

Major Pain, may I ask you a question? Why did you not have "under God" in your comment? It really should be there... :)

Laura, Marine mom from Ohio

I love our pledge. As a kid our class started the day with prayer & the pledge. I still start my day the same way. Love seeing that American flag every morning!

Drummond Mackinnon

You bloody Marines are so eloquent, thanks for your service.

One of your very best posts!

If you click on the Red Skelton Pledge Rosemary you will hear him explain that the pledge the Major gave is the original. The words "under God" were added more recently.

I believe he is making a point here.

Hoo-Rah!! Thanks for the eloquent reminder Major Pain!!

Where we lead our children will follow. Where one stands up others will too. This is a wonderful tribute to our pledge, our oath, the beginning of our need to mend our "moral fiber" that has begun to fray. Thank you. Starting with the basics and building from there is a great way to once again become a great country: United.

Karen I.

Very clever way of putting it, Major.

Thank you, B-Marine

You are too freakin' cool!!!! I love the various non-English versions, too. Never more appropriate.

Semper Gratus, Maj Pain!

Happy to say that the Pledge of Allegiance is recited in the schools here in NE Ohio where I live. They also have a community concert where they perform (gasp) patriotic music and they even play Christmas music at Christmas time! There are still some areas mostly untouched by that garbage! (And I thank God I live in one of those areas!)

One Nation - - One Country, UNDER GOD.

Miss Ladybug

I happen to be teaching the unit on citizenship and government right now for my 3rd graders, and this topic would fit in perfectly!

I teach immigrant children and its one of the first things they learn in English. They're more enthusiastic about saying it than many American kids are. Perhaps, its because they fully understand how fortunate they are to live here.

Not much of value to add except to say that my little kids know our flag, the country it represents, and that bad guys want it to all go away. They love our Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen becuase they know that the the uniform they wear means that they are there to help and protect them. We all know the pledge in my family and I'm, proud and suprised that they say it their classrooms every day. Thank goodness for that and thank goodness for the men and women who make the pledge possible...Your freedom to skwawk brought to you by young Americans with guns. May the Almighty bless our warriors in helping them to do their duties, to keep their individual honor clean and to keep them from every harm...

Semper Fi warriors and thank you for allowing my growing children to have the opportunity to know and say the pledge. Without you, they don't get that privilege...

Freakin' awesome, Major!
